Days 1-2 (March 8-9, 2019): Entering the Time Warp!

A big, messy snowstorm greeted our commencement of March Break 2018.  Many of the flights out of Halifax Airport were cancelled today, leaving us a little wary about what our evening flight fate would be.

We both worked a crazy day, did last minute preparations, and appreciated a 6:45pm drive to the Airport by our good friend and neighbour, Jim Bauld.  Halifax Airport was a total zoo tonight:  a day's accumulation of passengers from cancelled flights, all crammed onto the last flights of the day, it seemed.

Despite the weather, our Air Canada Airbus A-321 left on time and arrived Toronto early.  We grabbed a bite at the Maple Leaf Lounge in Halifax, and again in Toronto, and then boarded our EVA Air Boeing 777-200 for an on-time departure at 12:45am to Taipei.

As we will cross the international date-line, a day will literally go POOF! under our noses, putting us into Taipei at 5:30am Saturday.  So leaving Halifax on Thursday and arriving on Saturday will literally feel like a time warp!  That will be followed by a tight connection to the Taiwan High Speed Rail link, south to Kaohsiung, Taiwan's second largest city at 2.7 million people.

Hopefully, a few winks will be possible during the 14-hour nonstop flight, otherwise we shall certainly be zombies as we try to explore Kaohsiung on Saturday.

I will report in with photos on Saturday evening (Taiwan time) -- provided I can keep my eyes open!

For now, ciao from the tarmac in Toronto.

Our Taiwan-based EVA Air Boeing 777 looks exactly like this.
